What's all this hoo-hah about raw milk?
APR 30 Here's a post on the Capital Press about the current argument in the legislature over the sale of raw milk. Seems 30 states already allow farmers to sell raw milk (that means it hasn't been pasteurized to remove any bacteria) to consumers. Proponents say it is safe. But if that is so, asks one solon, then why does the bill also absolve them of liability of somebody gets sick? Hmmm.

APR 30 Bobby Jindal is revisiting his "stupid party" comments in this post on CNN. Now he's decided that it's the Democratic party that is acting stupid (and arrogant. Pot. Kettle.) Unfortunately for Bobby, almost none of the comments on his post even mention him. One even refers to him as "the author." Poor guy just can't catch a break.

APR 30 Blogger CB Forgotston is calling foul on the legislators. Again. This time, he's saying they're plotting to pass the budget on the last day of session, hoping nobody notices what a mess it is, and that nobody says anything.

Crawfish: there's no quick fix here
APR 30 Blogger Crazy Crawfish is talking about education in this post, and how there is no quick fix. Poverty is not the only factor in determining how a child will do in school, but it's a big one, he says. That's one problem with the current "reform" fashions; these rich folks don't want to admit that poverty has an impact not easily overcome, he writes.

APR 30 The NBA announced sanctions against a billionaire basketball team owner Tuesday, in the wake of his being caught being a jerk on tape. (Apparently he's always been a jerk, but it wasn't on tape before now.) Blogger Ian McGibboney offers this post in support of the NBA's actions. Freedom of speech doesn't relieve you of the responsibility of it, he argues.

DeBerry: racism is not encapsulated in that word
APR 30 Columnist Jarvis DeBerry weighs in on the Sterling controversy in this post. The NBA owner, targeted for banishment now due to his obviously racist views caught on tape, never used the 'n' word, but his comments were obviously racist, DeBerry says. This should make it easier for people to understand that it's not the actual words, it's how they are used.

Grace: McAllister tapped into something real
APR 30 Sure, Vance McAllister needs to finish his term, pack his stuff and get on back home, columnist Stephanie Grace says in this post. But let's not forget how he got in a position to make surreptitiously-taped pictures of him being a jerk newsworthy, she urges. He campaigned as a politician who was willing to listen to anyone, not march blindly to a party-defined song. That's worth remembering, she says.

The Lens: one-time money stripped from budget
APR 30 Could our legislators have found a clue? The Lens reports here that a committee stripped one-time funds from the proposed budget during a hearing this week. The move is attributed to the self-described fiscal hawks, who keep saying that spending money you only get once on things you have to buy year after year is stupid. Well - yeah.
