MAR 31 Columnist Jeremy Alford takes a look at the maneuvers going on, and speculates on the possibilities, for the Attorney General's race. It could be a who-is-the-biggest-tea-head contest between Jeff Landry and Buddy Caldwell, he says.
MAR 31 Bob Mann hoists Baton Rouge Business Report publisher Rolfe McCollister on his own petard in this post. As Bob tells us, some 20 years ago, Rolfe was a member of the LSU Board of Supervisors (as he is now). Then-Governor Edwin W. Edwards proposed cuts to higher ed (as now-Gov. Bobby Jindal has done for six years in a row, and at a level Edwards never even imagined). Back then, Rolfe said Eddie should be fired. What does he say about Jindal? Nuttin.
MAR 31 Got plans in NOLA? You might want to check Gambit's Spring Restaurant Guide to plan the trip. It lists restaurants alphabetically, with a brief description and vital details.
MAR 31 You had to know that blogger Rod Dreher was going to get into this one. After all, one of his favorite topics to write about (other than his own books) is gay people. And, spoiler alert: he ain't a fan. In this post, he's attacking the CEO of Salesforce, which announced it will be pulling all business from Indiana. If you missed it, Indiana recently passed a law that allows discrimination by calling it "religious freedom." Dreher says the company is hypocritical because it still does business in China, where gays are even worse off than Indiana.
MAR 31 Blogger Mike Deshotels is writing about another educator's recent attack on Common Core. Nancy Atwell, winner of the $1 million Global Teacher prize, has come out against the approach, and collected a catalogue of its problems, Deshotels writes.
MAR 31 WWL has the text of Matthew McConaughey's acceptance speech for a NOLA film group's award posted here. It turned into a love letter, of sorts, to the city. The actor has worked on several projects there, including the movie for which he won his Oscar.
MAR 30 Last week, the National Art Education Association held its convention in NOLA, and on hand for the festivities was Project Runway's Tim Gunn. In this video on the Picayune's site, Gunn discusses costumes and couture. There's also some advice about judgment in there, too.
MAR 30 This post on BuzzFeed explores Connecticut Gov. Dan Malloy and how much he enjoys making fun of Bobby Jindal's presidential aspirations. (Well, let's be honest. We all kind of like doing that, don't we? Until we forget what those aspirations have done to our state?) Malloy likes to crack wise about Jindal for sure, but he also likes poking at other GOP gasbags, and this story doesn't leave that out.
MAR 30 Columnist Clancy DuBos is writing about higher ed funding in this post. Well, more accurately, the lack thereof. After a couple of years of teetering on the edge of complete destruction, are the leaders of our universities ready to get real? Maybe, Clancy says - but is it too late?
