AUG 28 This one is a little depressing. The Lens has put together another multimedia package, this time about what we lost - forever - in the floods that followed Katrina. Most striking is a map of New Orleans that shows demolitions.
AUG 28 Here's the NYT's Taking Note blog about crazy stuff the GOPers say, this one dedicated to Bobby Jindal's statements to President Obama prior to Obama's arrival in NOLA for the Katrinaversary. Bobby didn't want Barry to talk about climate change. We're sure Obama took that to heart, because the last time Bobby made comments on an Obama speech it worked out so well. For everybody.
AUG 28 This story on Huffington Post analyzes the way the media framed its coverage of the aftermath of Katrina. It's a good story, and part of a larger conversation that is happening, in a limited way, as we approach the crushing hype of the 10th anniversary. New Orleans was always two cities - before, during and after the storm - and it still is today. We all know that -- why not talk about it?
AUG 28 This post in Vanity Fair is about all we could handle of former FEMA chief Michael Brown, who wants to blame everybody from Anderson Cooper to Mr. Greenjeans for the feds' dismal response to Katrina - and won't shoulder a wit of the blame himself. It's an analysis of Brown's whining, self-serving, nausea-inducing post in Politico this week.
AUG 28 Here's NPR's coverage of the President's first thoughts on Katrina. In addition to the natural disaster, there was a man-made disaster rooted in long-standing inequality that has hampered recovery, Obama says. Thank goodness he didn't forget to mention Mississippi, Alabama and Florida - because everybody else seems to forget Katrina hit them hard, too.
AUG 28 If you watched any of the last Food Network Star episodes to see how Baton Rouge Food Blogger Jay Ducote did, you will get a kick out of this post on Movie News Guide. In addition to celebrity chefs Bobby Flay and Giada de Laurentiis, there were two other constant stars of the show - Giada's boobies. They saw more air time than anybody else, especially in the finale. This post explores the prominent cleavage, as well as Ducote's loss.
AUG 27 Blogger CB Forgotston gives us the scoop on the revenue forcasting going on among state officials. As usual, there's a lot of smoke blowing around, because nobody wants to come out and say how bad it really is.
AUG 27 The Politics USA blog calls Bobby Jindal a "religious bully" in this post about his squabble with Planned Parenthood. It even takes the argument to Jindal, quoting the Bible.
AUG 27 This post on Outsports.com was written by an anonymous man who is a high school football official - and happens to be gay. It's a must-read for anybody who believes that nobody's bashing gay folk anymore.
