KATC-TV3 was named 2012 small market Station of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters.

Lafayette's ABC affiliate, KATC-TV3 was named 2012 small market Station of the Year by the Louisiana Association of Broadcasters.

The award is given annually to the television station that best exemplifies the highest standards and practices of the LAB and of the broadcasting industry. All aspects of the station's operations during 2011 were taken into consideration, including news and weather, Nielsen ratings, community service, station promotions, sales promotions, website and other online/mobile products and services, local programming and special efforts.

KATC says in 2011 its news team led its class in overall Associated Press awards, and first-place finishes. KATC's first-place awards included Continuing Coverage, Investigative Reporting, Public Affairs, Breaking Weather, Sportscast and Reporter of the Year. In addition, its viewers helped raise more than $2.7 million for the charitable organizations supported by the station.

"We are extremely humbled and appreciative that we have been selected to receive this prestigious award for the second year in a row. We share this honor with our viewers throughout Acadiana and will continue to strive to improve our operation," Andrew D. Shenkan, president and general manager of KATC Communications, said in announcing the honor.

KATC won the LAB Station of the Year award three out of the last four years. Other recent LAB awards include the 2010 Community Service Award for KATC's St. Jude Dream Home campaign and the 2009 Community Service Award for the station's Tools for Schools project.

KATC-TV3 is owned and operated by Cordillera Communications, a division of the Evening Post Publishing Company. KATC Communications includes KATC-TV3, KATC-CW and katc.com.
