La. foreclosures on the rise

A wire report posted on The Houma Courier's website says foreclosure actions have struck one out of every 432 residential properties in the state. Louisiana ranks 26th in the country for its level of foreclosure activity on residential properties.

According to The Houma Courier, 4,552 properties received some sort of foreclosure notice during the first quarter of this year. Foreclosure actions range from "an initial notice of default to repossession by a lender."

The numbers, tracked by Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac, also reveal that one out of every 432 residential properties in the state have been the target of foreclosure action.

Nevada, California, Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Colorado, Utah and Wisconsin topped the list with the highest foreclosure rates in the country.
