Music still sounding off in area

by Dominick Cross

Festival International may be over, but there's still plenty of fun things to do and it begins right here in our figurative backyard with Downtown Alive! in Lafayette, and all weekend over at our neighbor's place in Breaux Bridge at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.

Sure, you may be exhausted from last week's Lafayette marathon, otherwise known as Festival International de Louisiane, but this is no time to put your feet up and be a weenie.

There's still plenty of fun things to do and it begins right here in our figurative backyard with Downtown Alive! in Lafayette, and all weekend over at our neighbor's place in Breaux Bridge at the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival.

DTA! will be under way

Gregg Martinez

At DTA! tonight, check out Gregg Martinez and the Delta Kings at Parc Sans Souci in the often imitated but never duplicated free, smoke-free, family-friendly, outdoor concert.

According to DTA!, Martinez plays a blend of blues, R&B and swamp pop music he describes as "bayou blues and Creole soul."

Lil' Buck Sinegal takes the Parc Sans Souci stage next week, followed by the Creole String Beans (May 18), Lil Wayne & the Same Ol' Two Step (May 25). DTA! closes out June 1 with Rareluth and Royal Teeth.

DTA! begins at 5:30 p.m. with food and beverage concessions music goes from 6-8:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Concession sales help keep DTA! free, so please leave your ice chests at home with your pets (speaking of weenies, for dog's sake). For more information, go here

Downtown Alive! is produced by Downtown Lafayette in cooperation with Lafayette Consolidated Government.
