RemINDer: DTA!, benefit concert for Mickey Sunday

A benefit concert featuring GIVERS and Vagabond Swing to raise funds in the search for Mickey Shunick, 22, who has been missing since Saturday (May 19), is scheduled for Sunday at Parc International, 200 Garfield in downtown Lafayette.

Zydeco at DTA!

Lil' Wayne & Same Ol' Two Step shine as a high-energy band, generating both old- and new-style zydeco with a distinct way of blending the two, putting them at a totally different level. For more on the band, go here.

DTA! begins at 5:30 p.m. with food and beverage concessions musical performances from 6-8:30 p.m., unless otherwise noted. Concession sales help keep DTA! free, so please leave your ice chests at home with your pets.

R&B and Irish/American folk music

A double-bill is scheduled Friday with live music at both stages at Cite des Arts, 109 Vine St., with Charles Manns' "The Jazz Singer," featuring songs of Cole Porter, Frank Sinatra, Lou Rawls and others; as well as "Music from the Heart - an evening of Irish and American Folk Music," featuring Danny O'Flaherty.

Country & zydeco at racetrack

Country music star Mark Chesnutt and the 26th annual Zydeco Extravaganza headline a weekend of music at Evangeline Downs Racetrack & Casino, I-49 exit 18, in Opelousas.

Chesnutt's show is set for 9 p.m., today, in the casino's Event Center. Zydeco Extravaganza, with an indoor and outdoor stage has 12 hours of music in store beginning at noon Sunday.

Chesnutt has had more than 30 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Buckwheat Zydeco, the Grammy- and Emmy-winning band from Carencro, perform at the Extravaganza, along with Keith Frank, Chris Ardoin, Cupid, Geno Delafose, Leon Chavis, Brian Jack, Same Ol' Two Step and many more.

Movies in the Parc

Goonies is set for Saturday as part of Downtown Lafayette's Movies in the Parc series at Parc International at Garfield and Polk streets. Gates open at 6:30 p.m.; admission is $2 and free for children 5 years and under.

Beatles fete

Kelly Keeling's "A Tribute to The Beatles," is set for this Saturday and the next one, too, 7 p.m., at Cite des Arts, 109 Vine St.

Memorial Day tribute

And in honor Memorial Day, the Lafayette Concert Band's annual free tribute performance is set for Sunday, 3:30 p.m., at the Ducrest/Gilfry Auditorium at Angelle Hall on the campus of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Benefit concert for Mickey

A benefit concert featuring GIVERS and Vagabond Swing to raise funds in the search for Mickey Shunick, 22, who has been missing since Saturday (May 19), is scheduled for Sunday at Parc International, 200 Garfield in downtown Lafayette.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and the music scheduled from 5:30-8 p.m. There's a suggested donation of $15 per person, but any amount will be appreciated.
