Bands are a family, too

by Dominick Cross

According to the press release from Tipitina's Co-op Lafayette, a band is a marriage and with that comes all sorts of ways to handle its internal operations. Caroline Helm, LCSW, a therapist by day and musician by night, hosts the workshop today about this matter.

Tipitina's Co-Op Lafayette has a couple of more workshops to assist musicians in the areas from the recording booth to the dynamics of a band.

That said, Caroline Helm, LCSW, a therapist by day and musician by night, hosts a workshop today, 6-7 p.m., at the Tipitina's Co-Op Lafayette, 203 Jefferson St.

According to the press release, a band is a marriage and with that comes all sorts of ways to handle its internal operations. Egos, creativity, fear, power, vulnerability, logistics, performance and respect are common challenges that every band faces at one point or another.

This workshop aims to help band members and future band members to gain insight about band dynamics to maximize the success of the band.

Next Tuesday, June 26, How To Organize Your Edits In FCP will be offered by the local Tip's co-op and is hosted by Misty Talley.

According to the press release, most people are excited about editing a project and usually want to jump right in. But not being prepared can cause huge headaches and cost you in the end. Talley says every minute spent organizing will save you an hour of work. The workshop will focus on prepping hard drive(s), workflow, logging, maintaining order and prepping the project to hand off for another part of the editing process.

An editor living and working in Lafayette, Talley is known for her speed, organizational skills and organic editing style. She has four features under her belt as an editor and many more as an assistant and associate editor. She has worked on a variety of projects, editing everything from promotional videos, trailers, short films and features.
