Tip's co-op studio open for musicians, filmmakers

by Dominick Cross

That's what Tipitina's Co-op Lafayette residency program is all about: providing local musicians and digital media artists the resources needed to create and promote their work.

So your band wants to make a recording but lack the bucks to put it all together? Not a problem if you check out Tipitina's Co-op Lafayette and its residency program that allows musicians to apply for studio space to make a recording.

Not only that, there's office space at 203 Jefferson St. to take care of the background procedures that go along with getting your music out.

"Basically, they have access to the whole co-op and everything we offer," says Rachel Nederveld, manager of the Lafayette office. "You actually have your own private room where you can set up stuff and you don't have to keep moving anything out. It's your own space, you use it as you need it for the duration."

And that's what Tips' residency program is all about: providing local musicians and digital media artists the resources needed to create and promote their work.

Membership is only $10 a month and gives access to Pro Tools LE, Final Cut Pro, Adobe Suite (Photoshop, etc.), Reason and more, as well as workshops and use of office space and equipment (printers, fax, etc.).

In other words, the program is designed to provide a professional work place and office/studio environment for short term projects to musicians, filmmakers, graphic designers and other digital media artists in the Lafayette area. Example projects include editing a film, writing songs for a record and utilizing the space as a film production office.

However, do not expect to just walk in, set up and record. There is an application process. Call 234-5137 or email here for more information.
