LPSS offering one-stop school registration

by Heather Miller

The Lafayette Parish School System is for the first time offering a centralized location for parents to register children for school. The Lafayette Parish School System is offering a one-stop shop for registering students for the upcoming school year with three registration events planned for the former LeRosen Elementary on Pinhook Road.

The three 12-hour registration sessions are "designed to offer greater convenience to parents who need to register one or more children at a Lafayette parish school, as well as those needing one or more ancillary services."

Additional services covered by the registration events include special education, 504, ESL, health services, transportation, homeless services, child welfare & attendance and child nutrition/school lunch.

"We want to make the registration process as painless and efficient as possible," LPSS Superintendent Pat Cooper says in a prepared statement. "We encourage parents to take advantage of this new offering to get their children registered and ready before the school year begins."

LPSS notes in the release that registration is only required for students transferring to a new school because the family has moved within the district or if a student has relocated to the LPSS district from somewhere else. Students who are moving to a new school due to natural progression, like those moving from elementary to middle school for example, are not required to register.

The three registration events will be held July 25, Aug. 1 and Aug. 8 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Registration forms are available for download on the school system's website. Call 521-7090 for more information.
