Lafayette Regional Airport's passenger activity in June was the best ever for that month and second best in the airport's history. Year-to-date the airport is up 9 percent. In a press release issued late Monday, the Lafayette Regional Airport reports that June's passenger activity was the best for that month and the second best ever in the airport's history. This strong activity is helping fuel what will likely be a year that easily surpasses 2011's record-breaking numbers.
Both boardings, 22,344, and arrivals, 21,171, in June were the best ever for the month.
"June has traditionally been a busy month, with families taking summer vacations, but these numbers indicate more and more that people are choosing to fly Lafayette," Lafayette Airport Commission Chairman Paul A. Guilbeau said in announcing the numbers. "So far this year, the airport has over 19,000 more passengers than in 2011. That is an increase of almost 9 percent over last year's record-breaking numbers."
Load factors, the number of passengers flying on an airline compared to the number of seats available, continued to be high in June for all three carriers, according to the release. Leading the way was Delta Connection/Atlanta with 89 percent of seats filled, followed by American Eagle/Dallas with 84.3 percent and United Airlines/Houston with 66.1 percent.
Cargo numbers for May remained high as well. Enplaned cargo totaled 859,155 pounds and deplaned cargo totaled 1,158,258 pounds.
