Ernesto eyeing Gulf

The storm has 50 mph sustained winds and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by early next week.

Tropical Depression No. 5 now has a name: Ernesto. The system was upgraded to a tropical storm Thursday.

KATC, via the National Hurricane Center, reports the storm has 50 mph sustained winds and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by early next week. The storm is moving at 22 mph and will be a threat for the next 5-6 days, possibly taking a north-northwestern turn into the Gulf of Mexico.
