Dish of the Day: French Press' grits and grillades

by Leslie Turk

For breakfast or lunch, The French Press serves its version of grits and grillades for those with hearty appetites.

The French Press, best known for its incredible breakfast menu, is home to Cajun favorites with gourmet twists, including the grits and grillades for $8.50.

The grits are stone ground, and the grillades are Uncle Sammy's recipe with stewed tomatoes and topped with two fried eggs. For a seafood supplement, add the fried oysters for $3.

Bring a friend to breakfast or lunch and receive a free appetizer with purchase of two entrées, which is the restaurant's EatLafayette special through Aug. 15. The restaurant, located at 214 E. Vermilion, is closed on Mondays but open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the weekends. The restaurant converts to a white linen establishment on Friday and Saturday night from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.
