Monday's Dish of the Day is a drink, quite possibly the best cup of coffee to ever touch your lips.
Visit The Lab Handcrafted Coffee and Comforts in River Ranch, Lafayette's newest café, for a cup of coffee unlike any other. "Everything we do is based on science, chemistry and experimentation," owner Thomas Peters says as he describes The Lab's signature hand-poured coffee - today's Dish Drink of the Day. The detailed process involves exact measurements and temperatures and a two-and-a-half minute pour time that leaves a coffee devoid of the traditional bitter taste. Oh, and he recommends you try it black.
"It extracts the most beautiful flavors, and the filter removes all of the bitterness from the grounds," Peters says. "I want people to realize coffee doesn't need to be weighed down by sugar or cream."
The Lab opened its doors at 1042 Camellia Blvd. on June 28 to serve Lafayette a variety of coffees, teas, pastries, artisan chocolates and its signature cold sweet creams - a hybrid between gelato and ice cream. Visit Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
