Join the all-new IND Monthly for Fashion's Night Out

by Leslie Turk

A few years ago Vogue decided to give the fashion industry in NYC a shot of juice with Fashion's Night Out. What started as a way to boost a struggling economy and get people out to shop has turned into an all-out celebration of fashion with celebs manning DJ booths, fashion shows in stores and all manner of fête focused on dressing well. Tonight, River Ranch joins the celebration for the third year in a row.

At Hemline the champagne is already chilling, and over at the freshly opened Red Arrow Workshop members of the Red Stick Ramblers are tuning up for some live swing and jazz. At Knotting Hill, you can learn how to do the enviable fishtail braid while Shoe La La is having a trunk show of the super cute new Stella & Dot jewelry pieces.

HerringStone's will, again, present a fashion show of its latest and greatest for fall, and many stores are offering discounts and special deals.

Check out our list below of the highlights throughout Main Street in River Ranch and, perhaps most importantly, come by Another Broken Egg to visit the fashion-forward folks of IND Monthly. Yours truly will be there ready to hand you a copy of the IND's first-ever monthly edition hot off the press. And you'll get a gander at our six honorees and celeb fashion icon in the IND Style section. (Visit back here soon for more words of wisdom on standout dressing from the winners as we gear up for the inaugural IND Style Awards Sept. 19 at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.)

While Fashion's Night Out in NYC surely offers style mavens the chance to rock their fall wares for the first time, let's get real, it's still a sauna around here. So, we checked in with the fashion forward dressers around Main Street to see what to wear tonight.

"It's definitely anything goes," says Muffy LeBlanc, Hemline owner.

As of midmorning, she was still making decisions about her outfits with two front runners. Red animal print leggings, tank and combat boots (you'll see them everywhere this fall) or bell bottom jeans, leather tank (o, so hot for fall) and leopard wedges.

Over at Vertigo, the fashionistas will be wearing colored shorts and fringe booties - a great marriage of fall while honoring the reality of our climate. Katie Culbert of kiki is wearing what she wore to work today - Vince black silk pants, sheer black top and Jimmy Choo heels worn recently to her wedding.

Amy Lewis of Shoe La La is going to be wearing a sheer paneled maxi skirt with dolman sleeve cutout blouse. The short of it? If you feel great in it, go for it. FNO is a great chance to experiment with that edgy piece you haven't been brave enough to wear yet. Take a chance. Be independent. And maybe come next month, it will be your fashion forward ensemble that finds its way into the pages of IND Style.

FNO events also include:
· Xtend Barre will offer sushi, drinks and specials.
· kiki will be showing off its new line of Chloe bags.
· At LA Specs it's $45 off everything during FNO. It'll have a photo booth and the top 10 frames for the season for pics as well as food from Bonefish and wine.
· Vertigo is offering 20 percent off everything with Keller's on hand serving yummy goodies as well as a $100 gift card giveaway to the store.
· Katie Bakes will be on Main Street with Cupcake Couture offering some unique sweet eats.
· Hemline is launching the Louisiana-loved jewelry line, Saint Claude.
· 7 Chics will have food, drinks, music and fashion with raffles.

And don't forget the after party at Cochon from 9 p.m. - 11 p.m.
