A staff attorney for the board is recommending the board decline to waive the penalty.
State Sen. Elbert Guillory, D-Opelousas, has asked the Louisiana Board of Ethics to waive a $2,500 late fee the board slapped him with for filing a 2009 personal financial disclosure form nearly 18 months late. A staff attorney for the board is recommending the board decline to waive the fine. The board will meet on Sept. 21 to discuss the matter.
The same staff attorney, Tracy Barker, is recommending the board go easy on former Bayou Vermilion District member Sterling Lejeune, who is facing a $1,350 fines for filing a 2010 report late. Lejeune resigned from the district last April and cites in his request for a waiver working and living in Texas much of the year and the need to care for his ailing mother when he is in Louisiana. Barker is recommending the board suspend all but $500 of the fine.
