Advo: junked vehicle ordinance cost LCG $70,000

by Leslie Turk

Local government has settled a lawsuit over the constitutionality of its junked vehicle ordinance. The Advocate reported Monday that Lafayette Consolidated Government paid $70,000 to a man who challenged the constitutionality of the city-parish's junked vehicle ordinance.

The settlement agreement between local government and George Phillips Jr. was reached in July and finalized Aug. 13. LCG also agreed to pay up to $2,500 to cover Phillips' court costs, the paper reported, noting that the terms of the settlement were not released to the news organization until Friday.

Phillips sued LCG in 2007 after it seized four of his vehicles parked on rental property he owned.
