KATC announces changes

by Walter Pierce

Honey-toned Hoyt Harris is giving up his seat as co-anchor of KATC's late newscast to make way for Jim Hummel, currently the station's weekend anchor. But we'll still get our Hoyt fix at 10 p.m. ABC affiliate KATC TV3 announced late Tuesday afternoon that current weekend anchor Jim Hummel is moving to weeknights and will co-anchor the 10 p.m. newscast with Marcelle Fontenot. Hoyt Harris will remain co-anchor of the 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts and will maintain a presence on the late show producing and hosting the popular segment "The Rant." It'll be status quo for meteorologist Rob Perillo and sports anchor Travis Webb.

President/GM Andrew Shenkan was effusive in assessment of this realignment of the stars: "With Hoyt's experience in tackling the controversial issues of the day, Marcy's knowledge of this community and its needs, and Jim's fearless, relentless approach to getting the story first - and getting it right - you won't find a better local news anchor team anywhere in the country," he says in press release announcement the changes.

Hummel has piled up Louisiana Press Association awards in his roughly five years at the local ABC affiliate, among them Reporter of the Year.
