American Press: pick Boustany

by Walter Pierce

The Lake Charles American Press newspaper today endorsed U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, in the Nov. 6 election for the 3rd Congressional District, calling the four-term incumbent congressman "an effective voice for area interests in Congress."

The Lake Charles American Press newspaper today endorsed U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, in the Nov. 6 election for the 3rd Congressional District, calling the four-term incumbent congressman "an effective voice for area interests in Congress." Boustany is competing in the primary against a fellow incumbent GOP congressman, Rep. Jeff Landry of New Iberia, as well as three other candidates.

The paper cites Boustany's work on behalf of the Port of Lake Charles, agricultural interests in southwest Louisiana as well as his work to expand care for veterans.

The American Press has steered away from making recommendations in individual elections over the past few years. But we believe that Charles Boustany Jr. represents the mainstream interests of Southwest Louisiana residents.

That's why we unequivocally recommend his re-election to the U.S. House of Representatives.
