Hadley Castille has died

The 80-year-old was an ambassador for Cajun culture, performing the world over for more than three decades.

The Advertiser is reporting that Cajun fiddler Hadley Castille has died following a battle with cancer. The 80-year-old was an ambassador for Cajun culture, performing the world over for more than three decades.

Castille used his experiences growing up the son of sharecroppers into a wealth of material that informed his music. He was also a dedicated proponent of French immersion education in his native St. Landry Parish.

Funeral services for Castille are pending.
