Texas Blues Coming to Lafayette

by Patrick Flanagan

Though a bluesman from Texas, Hamilton Lewis is less Stevie Ray Vaughan and more Bo Didley meets Johnny Guitar Watson, says his manager.

Hamilton Lewis, a Texas bluesman who learned his chops from the late Bo Didley, is holding a DVD release show at Lafayette's Blue Moon Saloon on Nov. 10.

According to his publicity manager Bill Arnovish, Lewis may be from Texas, but that doesn't mean his version of the blues sounds anything like Stevie Ray Vaughan. Arnovish says if he had to compare Lewis to any other bluesman, it would be Johnny Guitar Watson.

The unique sound pioneered by Bo Didley is also present in Lewis' music, says Arnovish, adding Didley even gave Lewis one of his signature square guitars before his death in 2008.

At the Nov. 10 show, Lewis will release his first concert film, LIVE AT THE HUB.
