Halloween Haunts

by Wynce Nolley

Still vexed as to where you'll spend All Hallow's Eve? Here are a few suggestions.

If you're still looking for somewhere to celebrate Halloween Night after the tricking and treating is over, here are a few suggestions of Halloween festivities/mischief going on Wednesday night:

The Haunted Inn: Death Bed & Breakfast

The Saint Street Inn will transform itself into the Haunted Inn for the Death Bed and Breakfast Halloween Party set for Wednesday from 7-11 p.m. This den of the damned will feature a special Halloween Breakfast menu, candy piñatas and a free cocktail for anyone showing up in costume. Entertainment includes live music from The Pits and DJ Andre Broussard along with readings from misfortune teller Miss Kelley Anderson.

Acting Unlimited presents Dracula

AUI brings this immortal tale to the stage of Theatre 810 for a special Halloween Night premiere offering the Count in a more traditional interpretation in contrast to some of the more over exaggerated contemporary versions of the vampire audiences might be accustomed to seeing.

Dracula opens Halloween Night at 8:30 p.m. to accommodate trick-or-treating families. Also, attending in costume on opening night gets you a $2 discount. Tickets are $10 for all seats and can be purchased by calling 484-0172 or going online at auidracula.eventbrite.com. Dracula will then run Nov. 1-3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, November 4 at 3 p.m. at Theatre 810.

The Plastic Theatre presents Vampire Lesbians of Sodom

If you find yourself downtown and still in the mood for more vampire theatrics, then walk on down to Cité des Arts for a special Halloween performance of The Plastic Theatre's Vampire Lesbians of Sodom. But be warned, as the title implies the play is a vast departure from the age-old Gothic tale of Count Dracula, so it may suck.

Halloween Night marks the play's final performance so for the send-off Cité will host a costume contest complete with prizes for those who can sport the best guise.

Showtime for That Vampire Play is 10:30 p.m. at Cité des Arts. Tickets are $15 for genetral admission and $10 for students and seniors and can be purchased by calling 291-1122 or online at citedesarts.org.

Artmosphere Halloween Night Party: Rareluth vs. Labyrinth and the War on Spiders on Drugs

Rareluth's second annual-ish Labyrinth extravaganza  returns with more scenes, more characters, more music and of course copious amounts of David Bowie innuendo as the band pays their yearly tribute to the Goblin King Jareth by covering the majority of the cult classic's soundtrack in addition to a few of their own tracks inspired by the film.

Before the Bowie bash, the night will open with The War on Spiders on Drugs, the latest audio/visual musical experiment from members of the CloudHeavy music collective.

Though it probably goes without saying, a costume contest will surely follow. Artmosphere opens its doors for the event at 10 p.m. with a $5 cover. More information can be found here.
