Fall style file

Picks for great style this week

There are few things that motivate me to make some changes in the closet like a change in weather. And so this weekend when the temps dipped I was digging through those space saver bags in the bottom of the closet for what could work again this fall and looking everywhere else for what's new and must have.

Fall is all about color, color, color. I'd love to tell you what the "it color" is, but frankly it changes every month. At this very moment, I'm feeling green. Deep, dark, foresty, rich green. The handbag from Vanessa V. in just such a color with gold hardware has us drooling over at IND Style and with a price tag around $50 it's as accessible as it is fabulous. We'd love it with rusty cords, a cranberry dress or as the pop of color with an oatmeal sweater.

When it comes to sweaters, I love a effortless vibe like this one from Knotting Hill that hangs just off one shoulder. For weekend, go with dark skinny jeans, some rusty cords (it's really all about rusty cords) or skinny cargo pants and high riding boots. For business, pair with high-waisted camel pants a la Katherine Hepburn and long gold necklaces.

I don't know that I met a boot I didn't like (and by like I mean love deeply). But, as of late I'm crushing pretty hard on the combat variety. These rich brown ones from Shoe La La are more fashion than they are militia uniform. Try with an all black ensemble, worn denim or a long floral maxi. If you're feeling brave (and we hope you are) try them with a short skirt.
