Free haunted house

by Amanda Bedgood

A spooky time to be had in River Ranch Six years ago the couple who owns Ketteringham Home Builders hosted a Halloween Haunted House in their then empty lot on Worth Avenue.

"We were just doing it for the neighborhood kids," says Laura Ketteringham.

Six years laterĀ  hundreds (they stopped counting around 400 last year) of kids (of all ages) come through the haunted house at 201 Worth Avenue.

Ketteringham says the family was never particularly "into" Halloween. But, after that first year it was on. The couple's children and parents participate and kids in the neighborhood can even jump on board. (Ketteringham reserves a spot for them to be a part of the haunted house.)

"We really do it for the kids. It's our kids. But, all the kids around Lafayette. It's our way of doing something fun and good for the community," she says.

And now the kids don't leave much of an option to keep the ball rolling. The haunted house starts at dusk and ends around 8 p.m. (Just a warning, Worth Avenue is blocked off for Halloween, so prepare to hunt for a parking spot in the area.)

The haunted house is certainly the main attraction. But, this IND Styler is there to eye the costume of the ever creative Laura. Stay tuned to see what she's planning for this year. And check back at IND Style tomorrow for some easy last minute costume options.
