UL's School of Music and Performing Arts hosts its annual State of LA Danse recital at Angelle Hall starting this Thursday.
The University of Louisiana at Lafayette School of Music and Performing Arts will hold its yearly dance revue State of LA Danse this Thursday, Nov. 8 through Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. with an additional showing on Nov. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Ducrest-Gilfry Auditorium located at Angell Hall on the UL Lafayette campus.
This year's State of LA Danse will present a re-enactment of the second act of the classic Romanitc ballet Giselle, which chronicles the tragic post-mortem exploits of the ghost of a peasant girl named Giselle, who dies at a very young age from a broken heart, as she returns to guard her unfaithful lover Albrecht.
Giselle is directed by faculty resident artist Marie Broussard with Courtney Anne Dressner and Vlad Marculescu Constantin of the Montgomery Ballet playing the roles of Giselle and Albrecht respectively as UL Lafayette Performing Arts major Brittanie Scroggs will play the role of Myrtha, Queen of the Wilis.
Chard Gonzales of the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts and UL College of the Arts alumnus Matthew Couvillon will also be premiering works at this year's State of LA Danse. The evening will conclude with a whimsical dance by State of LA Danse Coordinator Kenneth Jenkins called Bug Danse, which was created to music written for 1930s cartoon features.
Tickets for State of LA Danse are $10 and $5 for seniors and UL Alumni. UL faculty and students get in free with a valid ID. Tickets can be bought online at pfar.louisiana.edu or at the door one hour before each performance.
