U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, continues to collect endorsements from both sides of the political aisle in his bid to win a fifth term in Congress.
U.S. Rep. Charles Boustany, R-Lafayette, continues to collect endorsements from both sides of the political aisle in his bid to win a fifth term in Congress. He faces fellow incumbent Rep. Jeff Landry, R-New Iberia, in a Dec. 8 runoff. Boustany emerged from the Nov. 6 primary with 139,113 votes to Landry's 93,524, or a 45-30 percent advantage. Immediately on the heels of the primary, Democrat Ron Richard of Lake Charles, the third place contestant in the election, threw his support behind the retired Lafayette heart surgeon.
Today the Boustany camp announced another round of endorsements, including from some high-profile Acadiana Dems: state Rep. Stephen Ortego of Carencro, state Sen. Eric Lafleur of Ville Platte and Scott Mayor Purvis Morrison.
Camp Boustany also announced the endorsements of House Speaker Chuck Kleckley, a Lake Charles Republican along with GOP Lafayette Assessor Conrad Comeaux. Rounding out the endorsements are three more mayors: Timothy Declouet of Jeanerette, Kenneth Stinson of Vinton and Duson's Johnny Thibodeaux. Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson, former state Sen. Fred Hoyt and Acadia Parish Coroner Mark Dawson also endorsed Boustany.
