The Lafayette City-Parish Council will vote on an introductory ordinance at Tuesday's meeting that would restore animal-control services within the city limits of Broussard. The ordinance by Councilman William Theriot, who represents part of Broussard, creates a three-year cooperative endeavor agreement between Lafayette Consolidated Government and Broussard that would be effective retroactively on Dec. 1 of this year. LCG, at the behest of City-Parish President Joey Durel, cut off animal-control services to Broussard last month in an ongoing dispute over a lawsuit Broussard filed against LCG disputing an LCG annexation off Ambassador South.

Heretofore, Broussard had been paying LCG roughly $52,000 per year for animal control services.

Tuesday's vote could test Durel's pull with some on the council, particularly fellow Republicans Don Bertrand and Keith Patin who have generally voted in concert with Durel's prerogatives. Interestingly, Bertrand has the largest share of Broussard within his district yet is not a sponsor of the ordinance.
