BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Gov. Bobby Jindal's top budget architect is unveiling how the administration plans to rebalance this year's budget and close a $129 million midyear deficit.

Commissioner of Administration Kristy Nichols is scheduled to discuss the cuts Friday with lawmakers on the joint House and Senate budget committee.

The announcement quickly follows the decision a day earlier by the state's income forecasting panel, the Revenue Estimating Conference, to drop revenue projections for the current fiscal year that ends June 30.

Only six months remain in the budget year, so the quicker the cuts are made, the longer agencies will have to deal with them.

Most at risk of the chopping block are higher education and health care, the two largest areas of unprotected, general fund spending.
