Only in Louisiana

by Patrick Flanagan

According to this online "Guide to Silly LA Laws," posted by WAFB Channel 9, it is illegal to shoot a water pistol at a teller during a bank robbery, and biting someone using false teeth is more heinous a crime than a natural-toothed bite.

Reporters with WAFB Channel 9 out of Baton Rouge were left scratching their heads in this online story reviewing some of the stranger laws still on the books here in Louisiana.

For instance, chomping into another human's flesh using the teeth God gave you is only considered a "simple assault," whereas biting someone with false teeth is considered "aggravated."

Here's some of the more "out-there" statutes included in WAFB's report:

Every time a person is seriously burned, he must report the injury to the fire marshal;

It is illegal to rob a bank and then shoot at the bank teller with a water pistol;

[I]t is prohibited to stage a sham wrestling event;

[A] chef who prepares jambalaya in "the traditional manner" is excused from following the health code;

[I]t is a crime for fans at a sports event to insult of disparage the players;

[A] person could land in jail for up to 10 years if they steal another person's alligator.
