A slice of watermelon for spring
The days are looming cold, dreary, wet. I've heard more than one person proclaim Lafayette has gone Seattle on us. There's something this IND Styler kind of loves about this weather. Perhaps because it feels as though it welcomes my black on black and black favorite ensembles. But, I know many of you Cajun folk are Vitamin D fiends and longing for warmer days. And so, we'll take a little peek into spring at one of the fresh colors we're already seeing among the new crop wares. Watermelon. Yum.
Awhile back trend predictor Vanessa V. said the unique hue of melony pink was on her radar. Promising it would be the next big thing. Today, at Knotting Hill we got a sneak peek of some of the boutique's spring pieces like this super fitted Vince Camuto dress for a dressy day look (we also spied them unpacking grey and watermelon stripe maxis and super flirty ripe watermelon mini dresses with a dot of lime) and a promise from owner Emily Clarke that pink, pink, pink would be everywhere come spring. And to what did my wondering eyes did appear? A bright pinky melon Marc Jacobs handbag duo at kiki. In other words, we're already finding this happy mood color all around town.
So, the question comes in how to rock it. Over at Vanessa V., the ladies are pairing it with contrasting colors like this maxi skirt and cardi. It's the way they venture to print mix. Subtle, but funky.
We're loving watermelon with a contrast like aqua. It's perfection with the much buzzed about mint we're sure to see everywhere this spring. There's something quite natural, in fact, about the color with greens of all sorts. Perhaps because we're so accustom to seeing it next to a striped rind of green? And how will I be wearing my melon? Well, with black (but, of course). Add a block of white to the duo of watermelon and black and you have an uber modern sleek take on the color. Even more modern? Try watermelon and navy.
