The Lafayette Parish School System announced late Thursday afternoon that two students ages 14 and 17 were taken into police custody after allegedly making threats to bring a gun to campus Friday. According to spokeswoman Angela Morrison in a press release, the "students made verbal threats towards Acadiana High's student body and staff members" on Wednesday and those threats "were overheard by others." The threats were reported to Principal David LeJeune who contacted Scott Police who were arrested Thursday.

The 14-year-old student was sent to the parish juvenile detention facility; the older student was arrested and booked into the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center.

"We would like to reassure the parents and students of Acadiana High, as well as the community, that the matter has been resolved and there is no potential for danger following the speedy actions of the Scott Police Department," the press release adds.
