The long-awaited UL Lafayette Bike Path is gaining ground.
The completion of the long-awaited UL Lafayette Bike Path is gaining ground, but students wary of the cumbersome UL bus routes are going to have to wait a little longer before they see a complete bike path connecting UL Commons with the main campus.
According the UL Lafayette Facebook page, the current path along Cajundome Boulevard stretching from Eraste Landry Road to Johnston Street next to the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center will be extended to East Lewis Street when construction begins in spring 2014.

A Lafayette Consolidated Government project to extend the bike path along Cajundome Blvd. will provide a direct link between the main campus and University Commons. The current path, from Eraste Landry Rd. to Johnston St. near the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center, will be lengthened to E. Lewis. Work is set to start next spring.
According to the Lafayette Consolidated Government website, the extension comes by way of a $507,000 Federal Transit Administration and Bus Facilities Livability Initiative Grant, which was secured last summer to fund the extension to the current UL Lafayette University Commons multi-use path, which now ends in front of the Ira Nelson Horticulture Center at 2206 Johnston St. The path's extension to East Lewis will cut through the Saint Streets area by way of St. Michael and St. Julien streets through Youth Park and across the St. John Street Coulee.
