Michael Sandlin, the owner of an Iberville Parish truck stop at the center of a fight over his ownership - and public display of - a 550-pound Siberian-Bengal tiger, is before an state appeals court Monday in Baton Rouge.
In a special session of the 1st Circuit Court of Appeal held on the LSU campus, judges will hear Sandlin's appeal of a 2010 ruling ordering the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries to revoke his permit to keep "Tony" in an enclosure at the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete. The suit was brought against the LDWF and Sandlin by the Animal Legal Defense Fund and a handful of Louisiana residents.
