IND Media's ninth annual Smart Growth Lecture and INDesign Awards Luncheon features keynote speaker Nathan Norris, the newly appointed executive director of the Downtown Development Authority of Lafayette.
It will be Norris' first public presentation locally since accepting the executive director's position for Lafayette's DDA, only the second person to fill that role in the organization's quarter-decade history. A licensed attorney and real estate broker, Nathan Norris has a rare combination of advocacy skills and real world development experience with particular expertise in leveraging placemaking as an economic development tool. Norris has worked with developers and municipalities to plan, entitle, develop and market neighborhoods, towns and cities across the U.S. from Honolulu, HI, to Charleston, SC, and south to Muyoyo, Ecuador. Norris is a contributor to the SmartCode Manual, primary author of The Smart Growth Schools Report Card, and has been a featured presenter for The International Downtown Association, The National Association of Realtors, The Congress for a New Urbanism, and New Partners for Smart Growth, among others.
Winners of the 2013 INDesign Awards will also be recognized, which is a juried competition that acknowledges excellence in architecture, interior design and historic preservation in Lafayette, Vermillion, St. Landry, St. Martin, Iberia and Acadia parishes. Winning projects will be published for the residential division in the April 1 edition of Ind Monthly and for the commercial division in the April 15 issue of ABiz.
