Cane Fire Film Series screens 'Wagner & Me'

by Wynce Nolley

The Cane Fire Film Series is teaming up with the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana for a special dinner and a movie fundraiser featuring the film Wagner & Me.

For its March offering, the Cane Fire Film Series is mixing things up by joining forces with the Performing Arts Society of Acadiana for a special dinner and a movie fundraiser featuring the film Wagner & Me.

Wagner & Me chronicles British actor Stephen Fry, known for his roles in V for Vendetta and Wilde, as he delves into his immense passion for one of the world's most notable composers, Richard Wagner. While trying to disassociate Wagner's classic music from the composer's alleged anti-Semitic tendencies, Fry journeys across Southern Germany to the town of Bayreuth to explore its legendary Wagner Festival to Switzerland where he investigates the origins of Wagner's "The Ring."

The benefit event will be held on Thursday, March 21, where a traditional German dinner will be served starting at 7 p.m. at the LITE Center, with the film following at 8 p.m. Tickets are $40 per person with all proceeds going to benefit PASA. For ticket information call PASA at (337) 237-2787 or Cane Fire Film Series at (337) 356-5153.
