Vermilionville's monthly Les Vues Film Series returns for March with a screening of Alan Lomax's Cajun Country tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Cajun Country was originally released in 1991 as part of the American Patchwork Series and follows renowned folklorist Alan Lomax while he uncovers the distinct landscape and rich culture of South Louisiana. The film also features several of South Louisiana's cultural staples like Festival Acadiens and its illustrious musicians including Dewey Balfa, Walter Mouton, BeauSoleil, John and Geno Delafose and more.
This month's edition of the Les Vues Film Series will be curated by John Sharp who is assistant director for research at the Center for Louisiana Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette as well as an accomplished documentary filmmaker and folklorist. Sharp will also hold a discussion after the film about its various themes and how they relate to the specific culture.
This month's Les Vues Film Series will begin tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Vermilionville's Performance Center. While admission to the series is free, a $5 donation is asked to help fund future screenings and curating costs. For more information call 337-233-4077 or visit BayouVermilionDistrict.org.
