Pin It: A Sweet Festival International Experience

by Kari Walker

Local cupcakery brings back its Festival Punch cupcake and this year is working to help keep Fest free

Drinking on the job is frowned upon in most establishments, but Sophi P. Cakes, the Official Cupcakery of Festival, has you covered: Lafayette's original gourmet cupcakery is bringing back the Festival Punch cupcake.

"It supports the whole town, not just downtown," says Jennifer Melancon, who owns the shop with husband Dustin.

The Festival Punch cupcake is an orange cake baked with spiced rum, pineapple filling and topped with coconut rum buttercream. One bite and your senses will take you front and center to a zydeco band and put you in search of some shades and a straw hat.

While the Johnston Street shop is not in prime view during Festival International, Sophi P has come up with a way to show its support by jumping on the campaign of Festival Pin-selling to help keep this beloved experience free for everyone. A stop by the bakery is more than satisfying a craving, as the purchase of Festival International pins can be made here with an added sweet bonus: 10 percent off a bakery purchase.

Cupcake and Festival lovers should check out the Sophi P. Cakes' Facebook page during the week of Festival International for special promotion announcements.
