The 2013 Evangeline Downs thoroughbred racing season opens next week and continues through Sept. 7.

OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - The 2013 Evangeline Downs thoroughbred racing season opens next week and continues through Sept. 7.

Steve Darbonne, director of racing operations, says the 84-day season begins April 17. First post time is at 5:40 p.m.

Racing will be held on Wednesdays through Saturdays.

Evangeline Downs is also scheduled to be included as part of Sirius XM's "Down the Stretch" program.

Dave Johnson, a national racetrack personality, will broadcast a three-week on-air campaign promoting Evangeline Downs' racing season. On Saturday, April 20, the program will broadcast live from the racetrack and the season will be mentioned on the April 13 and April 27 editions of the program.

"Down the Stretch" airs on Sirius 93 and XM 209, Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon CDT.
