Wardrobe foundations fit for every style
Each season there are statement pieces that speak to your style most clearly. But, just as in life, in all things style the key is balance. A statement shoe and statement skirt and statement top and statement necklace - disaster. And so, to properly wear the boldest of spring's trends it's a must to have a foundation of basics that are stand out. Pieces that work properly with the boldest of choices (as well as with other basics) for a look that's on point without being over the top. This IND Styler has tapped four such pieces I am coveting right this minute and you'll need: the perfect shorts, the maxi skirt with a twist, the shirtdress and the printed shoe.
Let's start with the feet and these sandals from Herringstone's Two Sisters Boutique. The black and white print hits two trends - black and white as well as tribal - that are hot hot right this minute. Perfect with an ensemble of basic bold colors or with a smaller scale tribal print and piles of necklaces in silver and gold.
I loathe shorts. There, I said it. I love the way they look when they're right but finding the right pair is second only to finding swimwear (if you have just a splendid time picking bikinis, keep it to yourself). Juju's khaki shorts are a great basic for flat sandals and simple tanks. Not too short or too long with a rolled cuff they'll be great with anything military or safari inspired and worn just as well with must have mint and mouthwatering watermelon.
The shirtdress is one shape that can be reincarnated again and again with success - see Exhibit A over at Maven Womenswear. This one pulls one of my absolute favorite trends - hi, low hemline - while remaining classic with that perfect waist that begs for a middle cinching belt.
Each summer I find a black maxi skirt in the fold of my go-to pieces. Perfect to throw on with a flat sandal and fitted worn t-shirt with some necklaces and a topknot for a Saturday or with tall wedges and a silky printed top for Saturday night. The black maxi with enough room to show alotta leg caught my eye over at Vanessa V. I'm loving the simple t-shirt and gladiators (which, are back , again) for an everyday look that's sexy enough to put some sass in your step and demure enough for Bach lunch with the kids. Basic and, yet, never boring.
