BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Shrimp season will open in some Louisiana waters next week.

The state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries says the season opens Tuesday at 6 a.m. in a portion of territorial waters between Caillou Boca and the Atchafalaya River Ship Channel.

The department says samples taken by its biologists indicate that small white shrimp have reached "marketable" sizes within these waters.

The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission is scheduled to consider opening dates for the 2013 spring inshore shrimp season at a meeting on May 2.
