An artful mix

Gallery opening at Mixology brings NOLA wooden quilts and Lafayette abstract work together

If the walls of New Orleans' homes could speak, imagine the tales they could tell - especially if those walls make up an 1830-something house in the historic Faubourg Treme area. Atelier Treme, a studio workshop based in Treme, began as an effort to rebuild such a family home after Katrina and using reclaimed wood they've created the original New Orleans Woods Quilts.

More than 200 collectors worldwide display the work in their homes and businesses and the pieces inspired by deep Louisiana roots will be up for viewing at Mixology in the Oil Center come Saturday when a gallery reception and opening give guests a chance to peruse art and sip wine.

"Atelier Treme creates enduring heirlooms that pay tribute to the mystery, traditions and vibrant culture of Louisiana," according to the artist who creates the pieces.

And speaking of that vibrant Louisiana culture, Lafayette abstract painter Clarity Ann Martin will also be on display this weekend at Mixology.

"My goal in art is to bring more beauty into this world. I love Frank Lloyd Wright's quote . . . "If you ignore beauty, you will soon find yourself without it. But if you invest in beauty, it will remain with you all the days of your life,'" according to Clarity.

Come out to Mixology between 3 and 6 on Saturday for an opening of both Atelier Treme and Clarity's work.
