BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - It took a Senate panel less than five minutes to approve a bill prohibiting the enforcement of federal laws in Louisiana regarding ownership of semi-automatic weapons.
The Senate judiciary committee took a bit longer Tuesday to approve a separate bill that would criminalize the release and publication of names of people with concealed weapon permits.
Republican Rep. Jim Morris' bill that would limit federal oversight of gun ownership in Louisiana advanced with very little discussion. It was approved on a 4-1 vote.
Republican Rep. Jeff Thompson's proposal that would make it a misdemeanor crime to post the names and addresses of concealed handgun permit holders passed on a 5-1 vote.
The bills now head to the Senate floor.
