Dreamy new salon

by Amanda Bedgood

Mon Reve open for business in historic home

Nicole David knows beauty. The stylist has long been doing hair and makeup for shoots like the Gatsby one published in this month's IND and now she's struck out on her own with an Aveda salon - Mon Reve - aimed at servicing a diverse clientele.

"Mon Reve salon offers an array of services to take care of all ages and genders including cutting, styling, waxing and professional makeup application for film, tv, photography, runway, stage, bridal or any special occasion," Nicole says.

She'll have stylists ready to travel on location and they'll be using air brush makeup.

I headed to the new space on Lafayette Street to see her vision come to life.

"It's an old house that we restored to be a salon," Nicole says. "It's has an urban mid-century modern décor."

White chairs and glass tables adorn the lobby along with rows of Aveda products of all kinds. The house has been renovated to accommodate shampoo stations as well as stylist chairs. And while the décor has a modern feel, it is coupled with the bones of an old home, which gives it a feel that's both old and new at once. It's quite a dream. Mon Reve.
