House committee approves fee increase bill for LSU

by Walter Pierce

That fee could top out at $300 a year by the fall of 2017.

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - LSU students could see a $60 a year fee increase this fall, if lawmakers agree to a bill approved by the House Education Committee.

That fee could top out at $300 a year by the fall of 2017.

Baton Rouge Rep. Franklin Foil, sponsor of the fee bill, said the money raised would be used for campus maintenance projects. For the Baton Rouge campus, Foil says that fee could generate up to $4 million in the first year.

The proposal also includes other fees, like a $300-per-year dental supply fee and a $275 per academic year prosthetic device fee for students in the LSU dental surgery program.

With a 9-3 vote Wednesday, the proposal advanced to the full House.
