BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Louisiana House is considering substantial tweaks to an alternative proposal to Gov. Bobby Jindal's budget for next year.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers is working to strip out $500 million in uncertain funding proposed by Jindal. In its place, lawmakers are proposing changes to tax break programs and cuts to state agencies.
An earlier plan ran into opposition from House Republicans.
A new version, according to Republican Rep. Tim Burns, would use ideas once proposed by Jindal, including cuts to film tax credits and to the Enterprise Zone business tax break.
Solar tax credits would be limited, along with a severance tax break on inactive wells.
Burns wrote on his blog the reworked plan also would include an amnesty period for delinquent taxpayers to generate upfront cash.
