BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Despite the loss of seven starters to the NFL, LSU defensive coordinator John Chavis is sounding confident about the 2013 football season.

Chavis told reporters this week he believes the first 11 defensive players LSU puts on the field will be as good as any in the country.

The Advocate reports that Chavis acknowledges the Tigers' need to build depth. But he doesn't shy away from high expectations after having last year's eighth-ranked defense. Chavis' remarks came during the LSU Tiger Tour stop at the Lod Cook Alumni Center.
