New administrator, who assumes role June 24, has experience with residency and teaching programs.

Indiana native Jared Stark is relocating to Lafayette to run University Medical Center once Lafayette General Health takes over its operations June 24.

As chief executive officer, Stark will oversee the transition of the facility and its clinics from LSU Health to Lafayette General Health and eventually all operations of the public hospital. Retained in the takeover to help guide medical education at the facility are Chief Operating Officer Glenn Craig (who is serving as interim administrator), Chief Nursing Officer Laurence Vincent and Dr. James Falterman.

Once the public-private partnership is in place and Lafayette General is running the Congress Street facility, the hospital will be renamed University Hospital & Clinics.

Stark spent the past five years as executive director of Franciscan St. Francis Health in Mooresville, Ind., where he helped transform the Mooresville campus from a specialty hospital into a full-service community hospital.

He brings invaluable experience to the new partnership, as St. Francis Health has both residency and teaching programs, according to Lafayette General Medical Center spokesman Daryl Cetnar. UMC will retain residency programs, and for the first time LGMC will have resident physicians training at its facility.

Stark also oversaw the opening of the emergency room in Mooresville and the growth of inpatient services. Additionally, he led the development of a new outpatient facility in Mooresville and a new hospital in Carmel.

Stark earned his bachelor's degree from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Ind., and his MBA from Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and received the prestigious Early Career Professional Regent's Award in 2011, awarded to a hospital administrator under 40 years old who demonstrates significant accomplishments in the health care field.
