Acadiana's favorite (and only) swamp pop super group, Lil' Band O' Gold, has been tapped as the opening act for five Southern dates with rock 'n' roll legend Robert Plant and his Sensational Space Shifters' U.S. tour. LBOG's tour-within-a-tour kicks off Thursday, June 20 at the Palladium in Dallas before moving on to Houston, Austin and Memphis and concluding at the Mahalia Jackson Theater in New Orleans on July 17.
But check it out: LBOG is planning a (somewhat) impromptu warm-up show Tuesday, June 4 at the Feed & Seed, and admission is five measly bucks. That's $5 for some of the classiest, brassiest, Cajun-meets-Creole bayou boogying rock 'n' roll this side of Hades. The show starts at 9:30 p.m.
This won't be LBOG's first time collaborating with the former Led Zeppelin vocalist and Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame inductee, who has had multiple and exquisitely creative incarnations during his more than four decades in the music biz. Lil' Band and Mr. Plant recorded together for the Fats Domino tribute record in 2007 and Plant joined the band on stage at Tipitina's. LBOG returns to the Domino effect on its latest record, The Lil' Band O' Gold Plays Fats, which includes collaborations with Plant on the classics "It Keeps Raining" and "I've Been Around."
Says LBOG frontman/guitarist C.C. Adcock: "Louisiana is the cradle of rock'n'roll, and Robert's music has come full circle, influencing the cultures that influenced him. It's an honor to get invited to make some more music with him, and to be on his show."
