AOC Internet Radio Production Summer Seminar

Acadiana Open Channel is offering a special summer seminar aimed at helping both members and non-members to create their very own radio show for its Internet radio station Cypress Street Radio. Topics run the gamut from sports to politics to music and everything in between. This seminar will teach the fundamental technical skills and production concepts required to build a unique live or recorded radio show.

Voices in Summer: Bruce Fuller & Elizabeth Burk

The Voices Season Reading Series returns to Carpe Diem! with the summer installment featuring J. Bruce Fuller and Elizabeth Burk. Fuller is a Ph.D. Assistant in Poetry at UL and co-editor of the recently released Vision/Verse 2009-2013: An Anthology of Poetry and his works include Notes to a Husband, Lancelot, and 28 Blackbirds at the End of the World.

Burk is a psychologist who spends her time between a practice in New York and a husband in southwest Louisiana. Her literary works include the recently published Learning to Love Louisiana along with works published in various journals and anthologies including Louisiana Review, Workers Write: Tales from the Couch and The Southern Poetry Anthology, Vol. IV: Louisiana.

Voices in Summer is free and open to the public and will be held Saturday, June 15, starting at 7 p.m. at Carpe Diem! Gelato-Espresso Bar, located downtown at 812 Jefferson St. For more information contact Clare L. Martin at [email protected] or (337) 962-5886.

Seed to Skillet: Veggies

Vermilionville's Seed to Skillet quarterly series continues this Saturday when Vermilionville artisan Greg Guidroz walks guests through the intricate process of how to plant, care for and gather crops to feed themselves as well as their families. For the second quarter, Seed to Skillet will focus on harvesting vegetables like tomatoes, okra, corn, beans and early peppers and figs. And with this harvest, Guidroz will be conducting cooking demos on how to prepare fig preserves, salsa and even macque choux. Guidroz will also go over other gardening topics such as fertilizing with manure teas, old time additions, organic pest solutions and preparing a fall crop list.

Seed to Skillet: Veggies will take place on Saturday, June 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Vermilionville, located at 300 Fisher Road.
