Lafayette attorney Warren Perrin, the longtime president of the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana and staunch defender and conservator of Cajun culture through his work with the Acadian Museum in Erath and other activities, has been recommended for an ambassadorship to a Francophone nation by U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu. The senior senator from Louisiana made the recommendation in a letter this week to President Barack Obama:
Dear Mr. President:
It is with great confidence that I submit Warren Perrin's name for your consideration to represent our nation as a United Stated Ambassador to a Francophone country. Mr. Perrin particularly is interested in representing our country abroad in Canada, Switzerland, Monaco, Luxembourg, Romania, Lebanon, Dominica, Guinea, Mauritius, Morocco, St. Lucia and Seychelles. It is a pleasure for me to bring his credentials to your attention.
Mr. Perrin has dedicated the last thirty years to the promotion of French and has developed the sort of relationships and contacts in the French-speaking world that demonstrate a great capacity for diplomatic work. Since 1993, he has been appointed President of CODOFIL (Council for the Development of French in Louisiana) by four governors (two Democrats and two Republicans). Throughout his many years of working with CODOFIL, he has hosted many Presidents of Francophone countries in Louisiana, as well as held meetings with Kings, Queens, Ambassadors, and Ministers. Mr. Perrin was also a member of the board of directors of the Congres Mondial Acadien - Louisiane 1999 and President of the Lieutenant Governor's Task Force of FrancoFete 1999.
In 1993, Mr. Perrin represented the United States at the World Human Rights Conference in Caen, France, and in 1997, President Jacques Chirac invited him to accompany the French delegation on France's Air Force One to attend the World Francophone Summit in Hanoi, Vietnam. Mr. Perrin has represented both Louisiana and the United States at four of the last six World Francophone Summits.
In addition to developing ties to Francophone countries, Mr. Perrin has been involved in social and policymaking ventures to France, Belgium, Canada, Mali, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Spain, Romania, Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada and Norway. He also has an economic perspective through his involvement with the World Trade Center of New Orleans, the International Affairs Committee, the World Affairs Council, the steering committees of the Congres Mondial Acadien 2014, and the French American Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Perrin holds a Juris Doctorate degree from Louisiana State University School of Law and an Honorary Doctorate of Laws degree from the University of St. Anne in Nova Scotia, Canada. He has received numerous awards, including the French National Order of Merit from France, the Order of the Francophones of the Americas from Quebec, and the International Achievement Award from the French American Chamber of Commerce. In 1999, he was named "Outstanding Businessman of the Year" by the Times of Acadiana.
These are just a few of Mr. Perrin's credentials. He would make a superb ambassador and I hope you will give his background and qualifications every appropriate consideration.
